Day 16 - food!

After a few weeks of running around this weekend was about laying low and relaxing. With this much time I actually got to make some interesting food for a change. Roasted a couple of chicken breasts. Seared some swordfish. Tried making bulgur wheat (it was easy and awesome) and also picked up some cous cous to round out the grains department. I ate lotus root (great), fresh steamed spinach, zucchini, tomatoes, red onion, mushrooms, garlic, peppers, cucumbers, carrots and avocado. On the fruit front I had pomegranite (good, but far more effort than it was worth), mango, cherries, banana, and apple. Mmm... good stuff.

  1. Brian, i literally just wrote down all the stuff youve been eating this weekend. Perhaps a little lazy of me, but have not being getting that creative on the veg/fruit front, and been chowing down on a lot of carrot, apples, green beans, oranges etc this week. I am hitting the shops TODAY. nicely.

  3. Hey guys - where do you buy bulgar? Timely comment on the pomegranate: I saw some yesterday and was going to buy one; might stick to mango. Brian - good selection of veges: you gave me some ideas too. Keep it up. Rich

  5. Nice variety, Brian. So I hear National carries bulgar wheat. I second the lotus root thing. They are delicious peeled and steamed. One of my favourite discoveries so far as I had it in Japanese "nimono" before but never cooked it at home. Turns out it is high in fibre, like you might expect, and good for vitamin C, potassium, etc., so good stuff. I also really recommend fresh kabocha squash in the steamer. Phenomenal and sweet tasting.
